KCP's foray into the Power sector via Hydel, Wind, Waste Heat based and Thermal based plants at its various locations was primarily for internal consumption.

Brisk to the opportunity given by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in the 1990's, for private enterprises to generate own power, KCP established mini-hydel projects on the Guntur Canal. With innovative technology and cost effective measures, KCP generated power from five different canal drops.

Unique feature of this plant is that the power house is installed within the main canal in itself, thereby avoiding the usage of a separate by-pass canal. This also features turbines of the "Semi Kaplan Variant", the first of their kind in India where the cost of generating power would be less than any other mini-hydel scheme in Andhra Pradesh.

The setting up of Wind Power based units was a part of the strategy to reduce power requirements for the Heavy Engineering business.

The Waste heat generated from the Cement Kiln in Macherla was harnessed to produce power and consumed internally.
